Pet Travel insurance

It is now possible to take your pet on holiday. With an increase in the amount of British people owning homes abroad, this is a very welcome development. Your dog or cat can be issued with a passport once it has been fitted with a microchip and vaccinated against rabies.

Most policies will cover your pet for a limited period of around 90 days, some animals such as rabbits may not be covered.

Some countries are particular about the type of preparation needed for pets to enter. To enter Malta, and the Republic of Ireland other than direct from the UK, and to enter or re-enter the UK, your pet must have a blood test. This can be done before the animal leaves the UK or while it is in another qualifying country.

To enter Sweden your animal must be treated for tapeworms more than 10 days before entering the country. The product must contain praziquantel.

If you want your pet to accompany you to a non EU country, pets must have an export health certificate or an import permit.
